Life History
Robert STIMPSON was born in Frilford Berks in 1815 being the son of James STIMPSON and Elizabeth nee ANGELL.
At the age of 23, in 1838, Robert married Mary Ann Wallace. They lived together in Marcham and produced 3 children as above. Wife Mary Ann died at the age of 57 in 1869.
Robert then lived at Gozzards Ford, and he re-married in 1872 to Zipporah HASTINGS / HALL. She was from Dry Sandford and had been married before to Elijah HALL, but he had died in 1868.
Robert spent the first part of his working life as an Agricultural Labourer, and later a Timber Hauler. On the last census before he died he was listed as a Farmer at Hitch Copse Cothill (Marcham).
Robert died in 1898 aged 82.
His wife Zipporah continued to live at Hitchcopse Cothill, as a widow, for a further 24 years, and she died in 1916 aged 92.
It is likely that an article that appeared in Jacksons Oxford Journal in 1867 refers to this Robert STIMPSON, whereby he broke his leg while at work on the Shippon road. As Robert was living at Gozzards Ford around this time, then working on the Shippon road would be local to him.

Jackson's Oxford Journal article relating to Robert STIMPSON's accident.
